Sawami

Sawami is a musician, singer, and songwriter/film score composer, originally from Japan, but now living in Los Angeles. Her songs are a blend of Baroque/Chamber Pop with Alternative Rock.

Sawami started singing at 7 years old when she became a member of the NHK Tokyo Children's Chorus.  The NHK Chorus toured in Asia and Europe, giving her exposure to performing at an early age.

After graduating from Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music in Tokyo, Sawami went on the perform in a number of musicals and operas. She moved to Los Angeles in 2009 to seek more opportunities, where she gained a bigger exposure to pop and rock music.

This experience combined with her unique background in classical and musical theatre to create a unique sound and approach to songwriting.

Eventually, she began writing and recording her own songs, often inspired by Synesthesia, a unique phenomenon in which color informs the chords and melody.

With encouragement and assistance from her partner, David Walsh, Sawami released her first EP, entitled "Crimson Moon," in November 2016. In 2017, she earned a strong reputation for writing English language lyrics for several Asian groups. Additionally, she was honored to work with acclaimed composer / arranger Bennet Salvay, when she was hired by Netflix to replace Carley Rae Jepsen, singing the Japanese version of the theme song to Fuller House, for a special episode from Season 3.

Sawami has also provided music for various clients, including the online series “Babble Eats Global” (from Disney). She continues to write and record new music both for herself and for others.

She has also performed a number of live shows in Los Angeles and Tokyo, eliciting tremendous response.

Originally from New Haven, CT, David Walsh played guitar for a band way back in the early 1990's called Disturbance, on Zoo Entertainment (now part of Sony Music).  After Disturbance called it quits, David went back to school while staying in the Music Industry, working at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, CA and learning piano. In the 2000’s, David played guitar on a number of records, including Lisa Marie Presley (To Whom It May Concern, So What), Melissa Auf der Maur (Auf der Maur) and Nerina Pallot (Fires). After having met Sawami in 2013, he was impressed with her skills as a songwriter and arranger.  He offered to help record her music, while playing some guitar, bass and programming drums.  David continues to support Sawami as her guitarist/sometime keyboardist and backing vocalist.
